CHOOSING PAINT COLOR * Tips * Ideas
For some the task is second nature. For others choosing paint color is a complex struggle. My background in art, interior design and property presentation has given me plenty of appreciated experience with color. I see color solutions very quickly. Did I start out that way? NO! I had as hard a time as anyone else and had to learn color theory. The most common difficulty people have in decorating, is color selection. Often wanting a simple solution, there isn't one. The foundational basics of the color spectrum need to be understood, learned by studying color. A FEW TIPS TO LEARN ABOUT COLOR: * Play - use children's water colors, mix, learn what happens * Learn to really see. There are often secondary undertones, tones of grey, tints of white, etc. * 'Matching' is often the easiest for beginners * Take into account all elements in the room - flooring, furniture, woods, millwork, etc. The more variables the more difficult it becomes. * Practice - paint is cheap and easy to correct. * Buy a small amount of paint once you're fairly certain of a color, and paint a large wall area. * See how it looks in the room in the changing light of day. * Easy to paint over if it isn't right. * Have Fun - Relax!
