Bar Stools * Heights * Ergonomics

Bar Stools have considerably changed home seating in kitchens, dinettes, even dining and the bathroom vanity for two basic reasons:

1) Convenience and Space Efficiency - they make great use of counter space, to the point of eliminating space-consuming tables.

2) Raised Seating - gets eye level over obstruction to views

ERGONOMICS - the relationship between body anatomy and physiology to comfortable, efficient uses of furnture and space

Bar Stools aren't as deep seated as chairs, so seat depth is not usually an issue. What is necessary is to determine correct height of stools to fit counters and bars.

Also, comfortable space between stool seating is 30 - 36 inches center to center, to allow for elbow room & swivel.

SO WHAT ARE THE CORRECT HEIGHTS? LET'S SET THAT STRAIGHT!

Standard Heights - however not all manufacture is standard and may vary a few inches.

Standard Bar Surface - 42 inches
Counter Surface - 36 inches
Table Top - 29-30 inches
Patio Table - 27 inches

Bar Height Stool - 30 inches
Counter Height Stool - 24 inches
Chair - 18 inches
Patio Chairs
are usually lower than standard for leisure seating.
